Artists Impression of the refurbished Broadway Cinema, 1996

Having survived thus far however, by 1995 The Broadway was in need of some attention and underwent a comprehensive refurbishment, funded by the newly established Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.

This refurbishment brought the age of the ‘multiplex’ to the town, creating twin screens downstairs in the stalls and upstairs retaining the sweep of the former circle in the grand Screen One.

Now, over seventy years after it opened, the cinema continues to look forward, recently being improved with further renovations and a new small auditorium, Screen Four, opening in the former restaurant.

Letchworth still has a cinema it can be proud of, looking forward to another seventy years and more…
