In the early 1960s, The Palace hosted live wrestling. By 1963, the wrestling was a monthly event and one which David Hugill remembers fondly:
“I went to a number of these. The air was thick with smoke, the noise was so loud it was impossible to think and there were old ladies shouting and using the sort of language best not used in a public place. All to help encourage their favourite contender to win the match. It was great!”
