Meeting a Letchworth Garden City Family

Now taking bookings for 2010-11

Pupils will uncover the stories behind four of the Garden City’s earliest residents. Your class will be transported back in time to the year 1910, to the early years of the Garden City. Offered initially as a 1 hour workshop, this hands-on activity is one of discovery and enjoyment which brings social history to life. With access to a wide variety of objects, costume and photographs, pupils will experience history in its relevant context, unravelling what it was like for men, women and children to live in Letchworth Garden City 100 years ago. A follow up tour of this topic is also available upon request.

Pre-Visit Activities - Introducing the Social Past

Prepare for your visit with supporting resources provided to you by First Garden City Heritage Museum. Introduce pupils to the local past through a series of photographs and maps from the museum’s collection. Pupils can familiarise themselves with identifying features of Letchworth’s history, including early development maps of the town, old street scenes and local buildings and landmarks. A teacher’s pack is available upon request.

Post- Activities - Cheap Cottages Activity Box

Take the arts and crafts of the Garden City back to school with our new Cheap Cottage Activity Box. Pupils can re-create Letchworth’s Cheap Cottages Exhibition with a variety of fun-filled class activities, competitions and creativity. With a broad range of supporting resources, images and worksheets, pupils will experience a famous event of Letchworth’s history, bringing to life the unique story of architectural design in Letchworth Garden City. SEN learning aids are also available with this resource. This activity box with teacher’s pack is available for loan, offered at a small charge.
