Since October 2011, we have been working on a reminiscence project in partnership with Freeman House, a residential care home in Letchworth that specialises in dementia care. The project was funded by the Herts Museums Partnership small grants scheme, after the museum’s successful application.

Sutton Garden Suburb Visit

Last Friday we were delighted to welcome a group of representatives of Sutton Garden Suburb, a place with similarities to Letchworth. Sutton Garden Suburb was an Edwardian development, cut from the same cloth as our own Letchworth Garden City, and they are celebrating their centenery this year. Representatives visited Letchworth to gather information as part of an exhibition in Sutton Library this September, and were given a walking tour of the town by Josh.

We at the Heritage Museum are all looking forward to Christmas, but that doesn't mean we're closing our doors!

We are closed on the two 'eves' and on the bank holidays, but we are very much open for business imbetween... so why not bring your good selves, your families or visiting friends & relatives along to visit us and find out all about the world's first Garden City...

World War Two brought to life by Letchworth's Museums

Over 200 children from five Local Primary Schools took part in our annual Open Doors learning week earlier this month.  Hosted in partnership by First Garden City Heritage Museum and Letchworth Museum this special schools week gave children a taster of Letchworth life on the World War Two Home Front.

Ten and eleven year olds from the schools taking part experienced first hand how Letchworth citizens would have kept the Garden City and its community protected from the promised bombing raids and gas attacks.

Museum artefacts star in London exhibition

Late last year and until April this year, artefacts from the Heritage Museum took pride of place in a special exhibition at the Garden Museum in London.

Hundreds of children head to the Heritage Museum for ‘Edwardian Open Doors'

Over 400 children from nine Letchworth primary Schools took part in ‘Edwardian Open Doors’ a week- long education event held at Letchworth’s two museums.

They found themselves transported back in time and immersed in a world where there were no washing machines, no electric heaters and certainly no television.  A partnership project between First Garden City Heritage Museum and Letchworth Museum & Art Gallery, this annual schools week gave children a taster of Edwardian Life.
